If you come to visit Barcelona we would recommend you to discover other parts of Catalonia. You can have as a camp base Barcelona and travel around.  Just a short distance away you can enjoy the astonishing rocky outcrops of the mountain of Montserrat, have a surrealist experience with Dalí in Figueres, soak up the Mediterranean in Sitges and the Costa Daurada  among others. There are a lot of fascinating destinations!

We suggest here a few day trips:

Day Trip  from Barcelona To Figueres and Girona

The new high-speed train – AVE- from Barcelona to Girona and Figueres has made some of these day trips a lot easier than they used to be.

You can get off in Girona and discover this magical city. The  city of Girona invites visitors to trace its more than 2000 years of history through two fortified enclosures, the Força Vella and the Medieval Quarter. The Força Vella dates back to the Roman foundation while the medieval extension of the city walls was carried out during the 14th and 15th centuries. The highlights of Girona are rounded off by the impressive old Jewish Quarter or Call, with its beautiful streets and porticoed squares, and by the exuberant baroque spaces and Noucentisme-style buildings.

Not only is Montserrat Monastery of significant religious importance but the natural beauty surrounding the monastery is simply breathtaking.

If you enjoy walking there are also some interesting walks through the mountains where you will experience magnificent views of some of the most unusual rock formations in the whole of Catalonia. You can take a funicular to the top of the mountain and from there you can choose a number of different walks, all with amazing views of the Catalonian countryside.

 Day trip to Sitges

Sitges is a Mediterranean coastal town, located in the Garraf area in the province of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. Sheltered by the Garraf mountains and due to its geographical position in the Mediterranean, Sitges has a warm “micro-climate” that makes it possible to enjoy outdoor activities almost every day of the year. Moreover, throughout the year numerous events take place in this beautiful town: the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Carnival, the Festa Major, Theatre Festivals, The Barcelona-Sitges Vintage Car Rally, Harvest Festival, concerts…etc. Do not miss it!

Four kilometres of beach with a delightful sea-front promenade featuring turn of the 20th century colonial “Indiano” mansions on one side and the sea on the other, makes it always a good excuse for a trip to Sitges.
