Sant Jordi (Saint George) is the patron saint of Catalonia, and his saint’s day is April 23. This day is always a celebration. It’s a day for lovers.
This tradition is based on a legend, where a knight kills a dragon in order to save her princess. This is the reason why, from that day, the 23rd of April of every year, Catalan men give their beloved princesses a red rose, and girls offer books to their knights in return that same day.
Sant Jordi is one of the favourite festivals for locals. Is the celebration of the love and the spring. There are loads of activities on. You can find book-exchange markets, concerts, poetry recitals, artesanal book fairs and more.
