La Mercé is one of the biggest streets parties in the city of Barcelona.
The party will start on Friday 19 of september and will run until Wednesday 24, with multiple scenarios and a program of more than 600 activities and shows.
The city of Stockholm will be the special guest of this year, a tradition that began in 2007, making the Swedish capital in the eighth city to participate in this festive and cultural exchange. The meeting between the two cities will materialize into two productions: the mapping Barcekholm 3D, which will be screened at the City Hall and also in the building of Foreign Affairs Swede and Circ Combinat the show, which will be at Castle Montjuïc.
In the Ciutadella Park there will be shows such as the solo dancer Virpi Pahkinen, Full group dance, musical theater group Sirqus Alfonso, the two magicians and dancers D1gits urban dance Erik Linghede, Niki Awandee, Arvidos inxi Håkansson and Ida Holmlund.
The Barcelona Accio Musical (BAM), which brings great free concerts in open spaces, will schedule a night for Swedish music groups Mariam the Believer, Seinabo Sey, Zhala, Postiljon, Frida Sundemo and NONONO.
The program of events will feature other well established classics like the Carrera de la Mercè, the Procession of La Merce or Fire Run, which will take place on Sunday 21 September.
Tradition is one of the three basic pillars in La Mercè. With castells (human pyramids), dracs (dragons) and gegants (giants), with dances, including sardanes, that illustrate the wealth of Catalan folklore, with fire and gunpowder… That is how Barcelona celebrates its most traditional festivity.
And if you want to see the city’s fire bestiary at close-hand without having to flee from the smoke and sparks, you can visit the exhibition that will be installed in the lobby of the City Hall on September 15-20. Take note: the correfoc will take place on Sunday, September 21.
